# Get started (https://www.codevisor.dev/docs)

Codevisor Server runs coding agents and owns machine-local project state. Codevisor clients connect
to one or more servers. The macOS app includes a local server; Linux installations run it directly.

## How the pieces fit together [#how-the-pieces-fit-together]

* A **machine** runs Codevisor Server and the coding-agent CLIs installed on that machine.
* A **client** connects to one or more machines and presents their projects, sessions, and panes.
Every machine signed in to your Codevisor account appears in every client signed in to it, and
your machines share synced configuration such as skills, plugins, and settings.
* **Extensions** such as plugins and skills are managed by that server.

If you are integrating your own client, continue with [Codevisor Server](/docs/server) and the
[API reference](/docs/api-reference).
